Peace Corps director visits PH

Manila, Philippines – Aaron Williams, global director of the US Peace Corps, is visiting the country from November 1-8 to celebrate 50 years of partnership in one of the earliest established Peace Corps programs, www.abs-cbnnews.com reported.

According to Williams, the focus of the visit is “to celebrate the great success of this partnership and to recognize the joint achievements of Filipinos and Americans since the establishment of Peace Corps by President (John F.) Kennedy in 1961.”

Williams will participate in the joint United States Agency for International Development (USAID)-Peace Corps celebration tomorrow at the Mall of Asia in Pasay City along with United States Ambassador to the Philippines Harry K. Thomas Jr., Education Secretary Armin Luistro, and USAID Deputy Assistant Administrator Greg Beck.

He will also participate in a special book launching at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City commemorating 50 years of Peace Corps in the Philippines.
