LG TVs sweep Best Product of the Year awards

LG Smart TV

Global technology innovator LG Electronics sweeps Consumer Reports’ Best Product of the Year in all of the 40-inch and over TV categories. As the most prestigious product review magazine in the U.S., Consumer Reports annually announces its best product choices in a number of categories.

In the November issue of Consumer Reports, LG LCD TVs were ranked number one in each of the following categories: 60 inches or larger, 55 to 59 inches, 46 to 52 inches, and 40 to 43 inches. The evaluation criteria included image quality, 3D performance, viewing angle, sound quality, user convenience, and power consumption.

Notably, the 60-inch LG CINEMA 3D Smart TV (60LA8600) received the American publication’s ‘Excellent’ label, with a total score 75 points. Models from Samsung Electronics and Sharp were tied in second place with 72 points each.

In the 55 to 59 inches category, the LG Google TV (55GA7900) and CINEMA 3D Smart TV (55LA7400) shared the top spot, with Samsung (UN55ES8000) and Sony (XBR-55X900A) products coming in next with 74 points apiece. Equipped with the latest OS version (Google TV 3.2), the LG Google TV was rated highly for its convenient, user-centric features such as voice search and program recommendations.

The 47-inch CINEMA 3D Smart TV (47LA6900) beat the competition in the 46- to 52-inch LCD TV category, scoring 71 points and receiving a ‘Good’ rating for every criterion measured. It boasts of sophisticated picture technology that optimizes color, brightness, and definition, as well as smart searching, sharing, recommendation, and storage options. Additionally, the 42-inch LG Google TV (42GA6400) was announced the winner in the 40 to 43 inches category with 67 points, besting products from Samsung and Panasonic.

Greatly encouraged by these excellent results, LG’s TV division continues to aggressively assert itself in the global TV market. They have already unveiled the world’s first 84-inch Ultra HD TV and have successfully launched flat and curved OLED TV models globally before any of their competitors.

Industry experts note that LG’s commitment to and investment in TV research and development are starting to pay dividends. To reinforce the competitiveness of its TV R&D, the company established the LG Gangnam R&D Center, a large-scale facility located in Dogok-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. The center has greatly improved synergy, bringing together more than 2,000 of LG’s best TV researchers, engineers, and designers.

In February of this year, LG acquired Web OS from HP in order to bolster its Smart TV software division.
