Alaska became the third team to score a lopsided win this week as the Aces showed no mercy on the Kia Carnival, 101-63, last night to boost its playoff bid in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Learning from the lesson of Tuesday’s 113-102 loss to the NLEX Road Warriors, the Aces went on a rampage late in the third quarter with Dondon Hontiveros sparking a 12-2 run to turn a 58-47 lead into a 60-49 advantage entering the final period.
Late in the evening, San Miguel Beer held off NLEX, 96-92, to clinch its sixth straight win and secure a playoff spot with a 6-2 record.
The Aces refused to slow down in the fourth on their way to tying the second biggest winning margin of the season which was set three days ago by the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, who rolled to a 113-85 demolition of the Blackwater Elite.
Alaska’s victory was hastened when Kia lost Senegalese import Hamady N’Diyae after being poked in the eye by Calvin Abueva with 2:27 left in the third quarter.
