Under fire for the alleged bullet scam against passengers at the country’s main airport, President Aquino summoned yesterday transport authorities to Malacañang and ordered them to thoroughly investigate the alleged “tanim-bala” incidents.
Although he refused to fire or revamp airport officials over the alleged bullet scam, the President asked the Department of Transportation and Communications (DoTC) to “verify and validate” all bullet-related incidents so the proper solutions could be implemented.
“The President has been briefed and has given further instructions in order to refine the efforts under way,” Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda said in a Palace press briefing.
“We have to look at all the assumptions coming out in the media. The President wants to have, let’s identify the problem in NAIA (Ninoy Aquino International Airport) so that we can come up with the correct identification of the solution,” he added.
Lacierda said the transportation department as the lead agency will be updating the public about the situation in the airport. Aquino expects the DoTC to complete the probe this week, he added.
Early Monday, the President held a meeting with Transportation Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya and other concerned officials on Monday in Malacañang in the wake of public outcry over the string of cases of bullets found in passengers’ bags at the airport. (Genalyn Kabiling)
