Liberal Party vice presidential candidate Leni Robredo has declared victory in the elections but MalacaƱang still does not recognize such triumph pending the counting of the votes.
Presidential Communications Operations Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said they prefer to wait for the official proclamation of the election winners especially amid allegations of irregularities in the partial vote count.
āWe understand Rep. Robredoās assertion pertaining to the results of the election, as well as Senator (Ferdinand āBongbongā) Marcosā reservations on the unofficial poll count,ā Coloma said in a text message.
āWe also note that Congress will soon convene as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC). Perhaps it is best to await the official announcement by Congress as NBOC on the matter,ā he added.
Last Sunday, Robredo claimed that her victory is āirreversibleā after gaining a lead of more than 257,000 votes against close rival Senator Ferdinand āBongbongā Marcos Jr., in the elections.
The Camarines Sur lawmaker said it was mathematically impossible for Marcos to overtake her even if all the remaining votes went to her rival.
Marcos earlier cried foul over alleged irregularities in the counting of votes and immediately sought a halt of the unofficial quick count. The Comelec however has denied alleged poll irregularities supposedly to boost the votes of the administration candidate.
Salamat sa Diyos at naging malinis at tapat ang ating eleksiyon (kahit may nanggugulo sa pagkalat ng lies).
