The Philippine National Police yesterday vowed to fully support all the policies and programs of incoming President Rodrigo Duterte amid his call for three active police generals to resign allegedly due to corruption.
Chief Supt. Wilben Mayor, PNP spokesman, said it has been the existing policy of the police organization to get rid of misfits as part of the move to purge the PNP and eventually professionalize its 160,000 uniformed personnel.
“We support the effort of the incoming President to get rid of policemen who are involved in illegal drugs and those who violate other laws. It has been the policy of the PNP these policemen has no place in our organization,” said Mayor.
In a thanksgiving party in Davao City Saturday, Duterte urged three active police generals to resign this early due to their involvement in corruption activities.
He warned the three police generals not to wait for him to name them as they will just be humiliated.
While the PNP says it has no idea on who Duterte is referring to, Mayor said they will cooperate with the incoming President regarding the matter.
“We will work hand in hand with the incoming administration to strengthen and enhance this policy and ensure that those involved will be prosecuted and separated from the service,” said Mayor.
Incoming chief PNP Chief Supt. Ronal dela Rosa had said he is keeping a record of policemen who are involved in illegal drugs operations.
He vowed to run after them when he assumes post next month. (Aaron B. Recuenco)
