ZAMBOANGA CITY – “They slap me for no reasons at all. They treat us like animals. They don’t have compassion.”
Thus, said Filipino hostage Maritess Flor in a radio interview Wednesday, two days after her boyfriend, Canadian Robert Hall, was beheaded in Sulu.
Flor and Norwegian Kjartan Sekkingstad were interviewed by Melanie Guanzon and Hermie Ventura on RMN Radyo Agong.
Both hostages apparently were allowed to be interviewed by their captors who are on the run following intensified military and police operation.
Flor, who has a 10-year-old son, spoke in Filipino and Visayan dialect during the brief interview.
In between sobs, Flor said they have been walking and changing hideouts to avoid pursuing government troops.
She said her family could not afford to pay ransom, adding that her father is just a farmer.
Sekkingtad, on the other hand, pleaded to the Philippine and Norway governments to help them.
“We are sitting and waiting, we don’t know if we will be alive later on today or not,” Sekkingstad said.
He said he was told by the Abu Sayyaf that he would be the next if their demand is not met.
Flor and Sekkingtad were two of four people who were abducted from the resort island of Samal last September.
The others were Canadians John Ridsdel and Hall. Ridsdel was beheaded last April. (NONOY E. LACSON)
