Antonio Lascuña continued to mock the challenge offered by Forest Hills as the ageless Davao star shot a bogey-free 7-under-par 64 to pull away by six strokes after two rounds of the ICTSI tournament yesterday in Antipolo City.
Lascuña, one of the oldest, if not the oldest in the field at 46, proved to be a class by himself as his much younger rivals struggled in his wake.
It was a brilliant follow up to his 65 the other day as Lascuña finished 36 holes at 129, 13-under par with only one bogey for two rounds, on the first hole, which he birdied yesterday.
“I was just lucky to have put it all together for two days. My driving, iron and short game and putting are clicking,” said Lascuña, who was able to take advantage of the course softened by and early morning rain.
Michael Bibat shot a 68 to take solo second at 135, seven under par, while sharing third were Jay Bayron (69) and Marvin Dumandan (70), at 138.
Bibat, who has taken the challenger’s role, paid tribute to Lascuña’s game, saying “Tony has been solid with his ball striking and putting but I can’t control his shots. So I just have to focus on my game and see what happens in the last two days.” (DING MARCELO)
