A revenue district officer is the first casualty in the campaign of the Bureau of Internal Revenue against graft and corruption, losing his job for sending a basket of imported fruits and wine to new BIR Commissioner Cesar R. Dulay.
Dulay immediately relieved West Davao City RDO Cresencio Agad, transferring him to a “freezer” post at the Davao revenue region as he issued Revenue Memorandum Order No. 40-2016, titled “No Gift Policy.”
A visibly irked Dulay said he was surprised to see the goods right in his room during his first day in office.
He said the sending of such gifts was inappropriate and against the anti-corruption policy of President Duterte.
In his memorandum, Dulay said “as a public servants and professionals, BIR officials and employees adhere to the principle that public office is a public trust and promote a high standard of ethics in public service.”
He stressed revenuers shall perform their duties without expecting any favor or material reward, warning them from accepting or soliciting gifts from taxpayers. (Jun Ramirez)
