President Duterte identifying five Philippine National Police generals who are suspected “protectors of illegal drugs” marks the start of the “cleansing” in the PNP and in the bureaucracy, lawmakers said yesterday.
Muntinlupa City Rep. Ruffy Biazon and Davao Rep. Karlo Alexei Nograles said the Chief Executive cannot be blamed for unmasking the five PNP generals as coddlers of drug lords.
Biazon said Duterte’s gesture during the 69th anniversary of the Philippine Air Force in Clark, Pampanga Tuesday proves that his government is committed to its campaign against illegal drugs.
“The President’s statement sends a clear message to the police that he means serious business in weeding out crooked cops. This should motivate them to do good and live up to the public’s expectation of an honest, effective, and proactive police,” he said in a text message. (Charissa M. Luci)
