A new low pressure area is seen to form east of the country within 48 hours, which may bring light to moderate rains over the eastern section of Visayas and Mindanao by mid-week, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration said yesterday.
PAGASA weather forecaster Shelly Ignacio said the cloud cluster is still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility or east of Mindanao yesterday afternoon.
Once it becomes an LPA, Ignacio said the weather disturbance may bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms over the eastern part of Visayas and Mindanao by today or tomorrow.
She said PAGASA is not discounting the possibility that the LPA will intensify into a tropical cyclone.
Should it intensify into a tropical depression, it will be given the local name “Carina,” the second tropical cyclone that may affect the country this month and third this year.
Today, scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected over Mindanao.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country will continue to have clear to partly cloudy skies in the morning becoming cloudy in some areas in the afternoon with rain showers and thunderstorms.
By Thursday until Friday, the LPA may start to affect Bicol region and the eastern section of Visayas and Mindanao as it moves towards Northern Luzon. (Ellalyn B. de Vera)
