The Philippine National Police has ordered all active police officials named by President Duterte to immediately report to their units for the investigation of their alleged involvement in the illegal drugs trade.
Senior Supt. Dionardo Carlos, PNP spokesman, said all police commanders who have direct jurisdiction over the policemen named by Duterte were also instructed to account them in the soonest possible time.
“They must report to their mother unit or to their immediate commanders for accounting. They will undergo administrative proceedings,” said Carlos.
Duterte publicly named more than 70 active and retired policemen believed to be involved in the recycling and distribution of illegal drug and protection of illegal drug syndicates.
Carlos said revealing the names of policemen involved in illegal drugs is part of the internal cleansing that the PNP is supporting all-out.
“As what our Chief PNP has been saying, we are zero tolerance when it comes to illegal drugs,” said Carlos.
After the formal assumption of Director General Ronald M. dela Rosa as PNP chief, he immediately ordered the re-assignment of more than 30 Metro Manila policemen to Mindanao over reports of their involvement in illegal drugs.
Dela Rosa said more policemen tied to drugs will be transferred in the coming days. (Aaron B. Recuenco)
