Gunmen strafe police outpost

DANAO CITY, Cebu – Two motorcycle-riding gunmen opened fire at the Danao City Police Station early dawn Friday, just hours after the police shot and killed the brother of Cebu’s top drug lord, Alvaro Alvaro alias “Barok”.

No one was hurt in the strafing incident but the jalousie windows on the second floor of the Danao City Police Station were broken in the strafing that occurred past 2 a.m. Friday.

The 11 policemen who were inside the police station during the incident took cover during the burst of gunfire. When the police went down to shoot back, the suspects had already left onboard a motorcycle. At least 21 empty shells from 9mm pistol were recovered in the area.

The incident took place just hours after the police killed Medz Derecho Alvaro, brother of Cebu’s top drug lord, and his cohort in a shootout during a buy bust operation in Sitio Pulangyuta, Looc, Danao City.

Alvaro and his alleged cohort, Ronnie Castro, were pronounced dead at the Cebu Provincial Hospital in Danao City.

The fallen suspect was the brother of alias Barok, Cebu’s top drug lord, who is now detained at the Cebu Provincial Rehabilitation and Detention Center. (Mars Mosqueda, Jr.)
