Alcala’s brother tied to drugs surrenders

LUCENA CITY, Quezon – The brother of a Quezon congressman together with his son surrendered to authorities hoping to clear their name from illegal drug accusations.

Cerilo “Athel” Alcala, 59, was said to be a high value target of the police as he has been tagged as Quezon’s drug king.

Alcala, together with son, Sajib, was accompanied by brother Rep. Vicente Alcala.

Cerilo, also the brother of former Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala, has a standing warrant of arrest and has been ordered arrested by nephew and Mayor Roderick Alcala here.

Back in September 2008, agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency raided the residence of the beleaguered Alcala father-and-son in Barangay Cotta this city where shabu and other drug paraphernalia were confiscated.

The case against the Alcalas was reportedly dismissed.

Rep. Alcala had to proceed to a Manila hospital to convince his brother to surrender and clear his name from the dubious allegations. (Danny J. Estacio)
