Ipinahayag ni Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Ricardo Visaya ang kanyang kagustuhan na makipagtulungan ang human rights groups sa militar sa hangaring makamit ang hustisya at panghabangbuhay na kapayapaan sa buong bansa.
Ginawa ni Visaya ang pahayag sa flag raising at oath-taking ceremonies na ginanap noong Sabado para sa pasisimula sa paggunita ng International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Month.
Ginamit niya ang okasyon upang ulitin ang pangako ng AFP sa Human Rights (HR) and International Humanitarian Law (IHL).
“We have made significant progress in our HR-based military operations and want the AFP to be fully compliant to the IHL operations and we believe that we can achieve this with stronger and more constructive ties with human rights groups,” sabi ni Visaya.
Idinagdag pa niya na para makamit ang hustisya at kapayapaan, kinakailangan na tingnan din ng HR groups ang mga paglabag sa karapatang pantao na ginawa ng mga rebeldeng grupo. “We are firm that the use of landmines by the communist armed group violates IHL and the CAHRIL.
We also believe that their presence in Indigenous People’s communities violates their rights as a people,” sabi pa niya. (Francis T. Wakefield)
