House acts to postpone village polls

The House of Representatives will adopt a joint resolution seeking to postpone the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections by the first week of September.

House Majority Floor Leader Ilocos Norte Rep. Rodolfo “Rudy” Fariñas said they will file the joint resolution on Tuesday in response to President Duterte’s call to reschedule the barangay and SK polls so that money allocated for the polls will be used for the establishment of drug rehabilitation and treatment centers.

“We will file the joint resolution on Tuesday, and if there will be no problems, it will be adopted week after next,” Fariñas said in a text message after Duterte on Friday expressed apprehension that drug money would be used in the October 31 polls. (Charissa M. Luci)
