Mowelfund: Training future film artists

MOWELFUND FILM INSTITUTE – Aside from giving medical, burial, and livelihood benefits to members, the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation, Inc. (Mowelfund) has an educational arm which trains future filmmakers via its Mowelfund Film Institute. Thre of its graduates are Brillante Mendoza, Lav Diaz, and Raymond Red…all acclaimed here and abroad.

Two of the 2016 graduates of Mowelfund Film Institute are Aiza Seguerra and partner Liza Diño. Mowelfund Film Institute is headed by director Boy Vinarao.

Aiza was recently appointed chairman of the National Youth Commission and Liza the chairperson of the Film Development Council of the Philippines.

Present at the graduation rites were Mowelfund officials led by Boots Anson-Roa Rodrigo and Marichu Vera-Perez Maceda.

PROJECTS – Highlighting the graduation rites was the screening of two short-film projects of the graduates.

Aiza and Liza filmed their graduation theses together with 28 other graduates under the supervision of direk Boy V and Edwin Joaquin. Aiza directed “Kidnap,” while another graduate, Yves Penesa, directed “Ikatlong Apat.”
Mowelfund hopes to enter the two films in short-film festivals.

‘ANGELS’ – They are called “Angels,” supporting Mowelfund all these years. Mowelfund is always in need of funds to help its marginalized members…and even non-members.

Regal’s Mother Lily Monteverde donated one million pesos during her birthday celebration last Aug. 19. A Lily Monteverde Livelihood project is in the offing.

Former President Joseph Estrada, the incumbent Manila mayor, donated P500, 000 to augment Mowelfund’s operational funds. Erap is the founder and chairman emeritus of Mowelfund.
