Convicted carjacker and self-confessed drug trader Jaybee Sebastian yesterday filed charges against Sen. Leila M. de Lima and two other former prison officials for having endangered his life and forcing him to fund her senatorial campaign.

Accompanied by legal counsel Eduardo Arriba, Roxanne Sebastian, who represented her husband Jaybee, filed the charges at the Department of Justice against De Lima, former Bureau of Corrections Director Ricardo Reineir Cruz, and former New Bilibid Prison Supt. Richard Schwarzcopf Jr.

They were accused of violating Section 3(e) of Republic Act 3019, also known as the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act; Section 5(a) of RA 6713, also known as the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees; and RA 9745, known as the Anti-Torture Act of 2009.

De Lima has also been accused of violating Section 3(k) of RA 3019; Presidential Decree No. 46, known as the Act Punishing the Receiving and Giving of Gifts of Public Officials and Employees; and indirect bribery under Article 211 of the Revised Penal Code. (Jeffrey G. Damicog)
