The Philippine Sports Commission plans to further strengthen its help in Palarong Pambansa, the country’s long-time grassroots multi-sport event for elementary and high school student-athletes.
PSC Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez said the government sports agency will start bolstering coaches’ education in different regions nationwide to have athletes easier access in training and development.
The education will involve a more advance and scientific approach in training, which will be taught by qualified employees of the Philippine Center for Sports Medicine.
“Being part of the management of the Palaro, we want to tackle and revisit what must me be done in order for us to discover and train potential talents for the national teams,” said Ramirez.
Palaro has long been the source of talents of future PH athletes that include legendary Elma Muros-Posadas, Lydia De Vega, and Eric Buhain.
Most high-profile universities also use the tournament to scout potential players for their respective collegiate sports teams, particularly in basketball and volleyball.
Next year’s edition will be held in Antique.
