Flood hits two N. Samar towns

CATARMAN, Northern Samar – Two municipalities of the second district of Northern Samar are heavily flooded due to heavy rains that struck the island of Samar since Thursday.

The Northern Samar Provincial Risk Management Council has been convened by Vice Governor Gary M. Lavin to assess the situation of the flooding being experienced by the towns of Catubig and Las Navas.

Northern Samar 2nd District Rep. Edwin C. Ong said he and Governor Jose L. Ong Jr. has dispatched 1,000 sacks of rice to the two affected municipalities to be used in the relief distribution for the victims of the floods.

Rep. Ong said the town of Catubig and Las Navas were given 500 sacks each.

Ong said heavy rains came because of the tail end of the cold front and the rainfall for December is around 440 mm and the actual rainfall in Northern Samar was already 331mm as reported by PAGASA.

Meanwhile, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Northern Samar 2nd District Engineering Office District Engineer Ferdinand Briones said all roads in their area are now passable. (Nestor L. Abrematea)
