Following the horrific plight of Andrew Bogut, the Cleveland Cavaliers are unsurprisingly looking for someone to fill in the slot. Names like Luis Scola and Anderson Varejao were suggested but it looks like the player they worked out has the inside track – Larry Sanders.
According to the Vertical’s Shams Charania, Larry Sanders and the Cavs are currently engaged in serious talks for a contract. If all goes well, a deal is speculated to be made official by next week.
Sanders last played for the Milwaukee Bucks in 2015. The remainder of his contract was bought out (worth around $44 million) after the 6-foot-11 player incurred multiple violations of the NBA’s drug policy, ESPN reported.
The Florida native sent feelers early this year of making an NBA comeback. He tried out for several teams, the last of which was the Cavaliers.
The conditioning of Sanders is still in question though the Cavs may have seen something positive when they worked him out last month. He could fit in perfectly to fill the void left by Bogut but the Cavs need to waive a player to create roster space to mitigate the cost hit to replace Bogut. A name suggested was DeAndre Liggins, in a previous report from ESPN.
