2 inmates escape from MPD Station 9

Police are hunting two inmates who managed to escape from Manila Police District (MPD) Station 9 in Ermita district by breaking the detention cell’s steel bars last Saturday.

Police identified the escapees as 29-year-old Leo Celis of 1661 Onyx Street, San Andres, Bukid, Manila; and 22-year-old Denden Tanjli of 2216 Adriatico Street, Malate, Manila.

Celis was arrested on January 20 for violation of Republic Act 9165 or The Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002; while Tanjli has a pending theft case.

Investigation showed that duty jailer Police Officer 2 Gregory Bago discovered that the two were missing about 4:45 a.m. Saturday.

The escapees reportedly used a saw in destroying the steel bars of the detention cell.

PO2 Bago surrendered to MPD general assignments section and has been charged with criminal and administrative cases.

Police are still conducting investigations on the incident. (Jaimie Rose A. Aberia)
