Zambo city dad gunned down in Manila

A Zamboanga Del Sur city councilor was shot dead by an unidentified gunman while strolling in Sta. Cruz, Manila, Saturday afternoon.

PO3 Aldeen Legaspi, case investigator of Manila Police District homicide section, identified the fatality as Embang Bonga, 50, a resident of Pantalan Street, Purok 1, Barangay Poblacion, Dimataling, Zamboanga Del Sur.

Investigation showed that Bonga went to Manila to attend the convention of the Councilor’s League of the Philippines at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.

Bonga, together with his son, Yasher, 28; and another city councilor named Reyham Lazaga, 28, decided to stroll around Roman Street near Recto Avenue in Sta. Cruz to buy some souvenirs.

While Bonga and his companions were walking around noon, the gunman suddenly appeared and shot the councilor in the head.

The councilor’s companions rushed him to Justice Jose Abad Santos Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Police are establishing the identity of the gunman and the motive behind the attack. (Analou de Vera)
