Amidst the political trench warfare from both camps, the insidious salvo of impeachment has been traded across the bow, so to speak, to show the level of confrontation now bearing on the nation when two of the highest leaders are threatened with removal from office. Denials are flying in the air of certain groups publicly washing their hands for and in behalf of Vice President Leni Robredo as main culprit behind the plotting to oust President Rodrigo Duterte.
On the other side of the spectrum is the forward charge led by House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez who, despite counsel from DU30 to “Stop it”, will pursue the constitutional removal of Robredo. It will be recalled, the latter taped a statement, which in effect, displayed our dirty linen abroad with her harangue on continued “extra judicial killings”.
“Mayor” Digong has been most gracious dissuading political allies citing “It has been only a year since the last election”. Political chivalry is extended via dinner invitation to the Robredo Family, in offering the “other cheek”.
However, Speaker Alvarez will proceed with the Robredo Impeachment. He affirms, she is “not VP”. A statement that has revived notice of the unquiet title Robredo occupies vs. Bong-Bong Marcos. It will be recalled in the last election, Bong-Bong was in many VP combinations: Miriam/Bong-Bong, Duterte/Bong-Bong, Binay/Bong-Bong, and Grace/Bong-Bong.
There is the unified vote of the Iglesia ni Cristo for Bong-Bong. The reliable “Solid North” and the Samar-Leyte of the Romualdez family. Mindanao leaders, to include “liberation fronts”, expressed endorsement for Bong-Bong. In the case of Robredo, the Bicol Region was splintered into votes for 4 VP Bicolanos – Honasan, Escudero, Trillanes & Robredo. It is a valid observation – Where did Robredo garner a bailiwick for the winning count? Mindanao? A recognized chattel for votes. Veteran observers warn, so long as Leni remains as VP, the sleepless plotting vs. DU30 will persist and even worsen in time, spearheaded & funded by the “yellow” group. (Erik Espina)
