Hindi na itutuloy ng Stop and Go transport group ang planong three-day transport holiday laban sa proposed phaseout ng kakarag-karag na jeepneys.
Sinab ni Jun Magno, Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operators’ Genuine Organization (Stop and Go) president, na kinansela na nila ang planong nationwide strike laban sa panukalang modernization ng jeepney units na 15 taon na pataas.
Ayon sa kanya, nagpasya ang grupo na isuspende ang initial plan nila matapos na makipagpulong sa transportation officials noong March 31.
“Our dialogue was quite successful. We agreed to wait for their guidelines so we have yet to see what to agree with or not. It will be premature if we would protest something we have not seen yet,” pahayag ni Magno sa isang press briefing sa Quezon City kahapon.
Sinabi ni Magno na tiniyak sa kanila ng Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) na hindi aalisin sa kalye ang mga jeep.
“Our dialogue focused on the rehabilitation and (improvement of) road worthiness of jeepneys…They told us we just have to comply with the Clean Air Act,” sabi pa niya.
Pinuri rin niya ang ahensiya dahil pinayagan silang pumili ng suppliers ng Euro 4-compliant engines.
“That’s what we fought for because we know they might take advantage if we stick to one supplier,” paliwanag niya. (Vanne Elaine P. Terrazola)
