The cold Christmas weather is officially over.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration yesterday terminated the northeast monsoon or “amihan” season, which signifies the official onset of the dry or summer season in the country.
According to PAGASA Administrator Dr. Vicente Malano, changes in pressure with accompanying changes in wind pattern signify the termination of the northeast monsoon.
“The resurgence of the northeast monsoon that affected the Northern and Central Luzon during the last few days has weakened,” he said.
Citing the latest weather map analysis and numerical model outputs, Malano said these have indicated “the establishment of North Pacific High Pressure Area during the weekend.”
He advised the public that the day-to-day weather will gradually become warmer and drier in the comings weeks partly because of the dominance of the extended ridge of high pressure area and easterlies. “This would also signify the start of dry season,” Malano added. (Ellalyn V. Ruiz)
