BACOOR CITY, Cavite – A 51-year-old vendor died in the fire that destroyed some 600 houses and rendered around 500 families homeless in Sitio Tabing-Dagat, Barangay Maliksi III, this city, Wednesday.

PO3 Michael V. Legaspi Jr., case investigator, identified the victim as Alejo Losa Cerera.

Legaspi said that Cerera’s charred remains were found in the rubble of his house by sister Fe Cerera Sabula and firemen during clearing operations at 2 a.m. Thursday.

Initial police investigation showed that Cerera was trapped in his house as fire engulfed the area. Cerera reportedly was unable to get out as he went home tipsy from a drinking session early in the day.

Cerera’s remains were buried at the Bacoor Public Cemetery at 11 a.m. Thursday. (Anthony Giron)
