‘Sputnik’ man killed

A 23-year-old Sigue-Sigue Sputnik Gang member was killed in an encounter with policemen in Tondo, Manila, Sunday afternoon.

Police identified the fatality as Rommel Antona, allegedly a cohort of gang leader Jericho Bajar, the prime suspect in two shooting incidents that led to the death of two persons recently.

Last Sunday, police said they responded to a report from a concerned citizen about the presence of a group of armed men led by Bajar in Aroma Compound, Tondo, about 1 p.m.

Upon seeing the approaching cops, Bajar’s group opened fire at them.

One of the cops, PO1 Berly Apolonio, fired back, killing Antonia.

Bajar managed to escaped, police said.

Last April 15, three-year-old Rosemarie Lopez died after being hit by a stray bullet when Bajar shot and missed his target.

Three days later, Bajar’s group was again involved in the shooting to death of one Jimmy Adobo.

Police are looking for Bajar. (Jaimie Rose R. Aberia)
