Theater World Awards honors Pinoy actors of ‘Miss Saigon’

PARARANGALAN ng 73rd Theater World Awards on June 5 in New York ang mga Pinoy actors na sina Jon-Jon Briones at Eva Noblezada dahil sa pinakita nilang husay sa pagganap sa Broadway revival ng hit musical na “Miss Saigon”.

Si Jon-Jon Briones ang gumanap bilang the Engineer sa revival ng “Miss Saigon” in London noong 2014. Nakakuha siya ng nomination as Best Actor in a Musical mula sa Laurence Olivier Award at Whatsonstage.com Award.

Ngayong 2017, si Briones pa rin ang gumanap bilang the Engineer sa pagbukas ng “Miss Saigon” on Broadway noong nakaraang March lamang.

Kelan lang ay nakatanggap si Briones ng Drama Desk Award nomination for “Miss Saigon”.

Noong 1989, isa si Briones sa mga Pinoy actors na napili para makasama sa original cast ng “Miss Saigon” na pinalabas sa Drury Lane Theatre in West End London. Kabahagi lang noon si Briones sa ensemble cast.

Si Eva Noblezada naman ay kakatanggap lang ng kanyang first Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical para sa pagganap niya as Kim sa Broadway revival ng “Miss Saigon”.

Si Noblezada rin ang gumanap na Kim sa 2014 West End revival ng “Miss Saigon”.

Ang iba pang tatanggap ng parangal sa 73rd Theater World Awards ay sina Carlo Albán (“Sweat”), Christy Altomare (“Anastasia”), Barrett Doss (“Groundhog Day”), Lucas Hedges (“Yen”), Denée Benton (“Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812”), Raymond Lee (“Vietgone”), Jeremy Secomb (“Sweeney Todd”), and Cobie Smulders (“Present Laughter”).

Bibigyan din ng special awards sina Katrina Lenk (“Indecent, The Band’s Visit”), Glenn Close (“Sunset Boulevard”), and Dave Malloy (“Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812”).

The Theatre World Awards celebrate debut performances on and off Broadway.

The annual awards show wants to “encourage and inspire newcomers to the stage to continue to pursue their dream.”
