Meralco nips JPV XI

James Younghusband scored the only goal as Meralco-Manila edged JPV-Marikina, Saturday to remain unbeaten after three matches in the Philippines Football League at the Biñan Football Stadium in Biñan, Laguna.

Younghusband delivered the match winner in the 63rd minute courtesy of a corner from his brother Phil that allowed the Sparks to come away with the full three points despite JPV having most of the possession.

Meralco improved to nine points, winning all of its three games since the league’s inaugural season kicked off earlier this month.

Takashi Odawara, Takumi Uesato and J Baguioro tried to level the score but JPV absorbed its second defeat in three games.

In Makati, Kaya-Makati struck twice in the first half on its way to beating 10-man Davao Aguilas, 2-0, for its first victory at the University of Makati Field.

Jordan Mintah broke the ice 16 minutes after the opening whistle before Adam Reed doubled the lead with a penalty off a straight red by Davao’s Jason Cordova in the 42nd.

Kaya improved to four points after starting the season with a 1-all draw against Ceres-Negros two weeks ago.

Davao absorbed its second straight defeat after its 1-all tie with Ilocos United in Ilocos Sur. (Jonas Terrado)
