MalacaƱang is expecting a full investigation into the bank transactions involving the funds recovered in a stronghold of the Maute group in Marawi.
Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella affirmed that the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) would be mobilized to probe the suspected terror funds recovered by the military.
āIām sure that will be part of the progression of the investigation,ā Abella said in a Palace news conference āI suppose that they can also ascertain the particular banks.ā
Abella said records showed that the money has been āslowly accumulatedā over the past two years.
āI did inquire and apparently the money has been compiled over from the time ofā¦ within 2014 and 2016. Based on the records I think, it has been, it has been slowly accumulated over the past two years,ā Abella said.
The military earlier recovered R52.2 million in cash and R27 million in checks from the Maute extremists still holed up in Marawi City.
Abella said the money has been secured and turned over to the Task Force Marawi for safekeeping.
āThe AFP clearly shows itās doing its job with honor, integrity and stands on high moral ground,ā he added.
