Alyssa Valdez and Jaja Santiago will spearhead the women’s national team that will compete in the 2017 Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Inc. released the list of the final 12 players yesterday, two months before the biennial meet kicks off.
Joining Valdez and Santiago are Kim Fajardo, Denden Lazaro, Rhea Dimaculangan, Mika Reyes, Maika Ortiz, Genevieve Casugod, Aby Maraño, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Aiza Pontillas, and Ces Molina.
Reserved players are Rachel Anne Daquis and La Salle libero Dawn Macandili.
The Filipina spikers placed fifth in that edition – a significant feat considering that it was the first time in a decade that the country participated in SEAG volleyball.
Coached by Francis Vicente, the team is set to train in Japan in July and compete in the AVC Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championships in Manila on Aug. 9 to 17 before heading to Malaysia.
Meanwhile, College of St. Benilde standout Johnvic De Guzman banners the men’s squad. Other members are Relan Taneo, Geuel Asia, Alnakran Abdilla, Mark Alfafara, Bryan Bagunas, Dave Cabaron, Reyson Fuentes, Bonjomar Castel, Herschel Ramos, Jack Kalingling, and Greg Dolor.
