A Korean tourist allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself after losing P20 million in a casino in Malate, Manila, shortly after midnight yesterday.

The victim identified as 30-year-old Hyun Jin Do, billeted at Admiral Bay Suites at 2138 Aldecoa Street, was found hanging by his friend Sang Sik Yang and driver Artnulfo Atok, Jr. in their room’s balcony about 12:13 a.m.

PO3 Marlon San Pedro of the Manila Police District Crimes Against Persons Investigation Section said the Korean tourists arrived in the country on June 14 and hired Atok as their personal driver.

However, last Monday morning, it was only Sik Yang who joined Atok.

When they got home around 11:30 p.m., the victim did not respond to their calls to open the door, prompting them to seek assistance from hotel personnel.

It was then they discovered the victim hanging and already lifeless.

Atok said the two were fond of playing in the casino and that the victim told him that he had lost P20 million.

Investigators are still confirming if the incident had something to do with his casino loss.
