WITH the official kick-off of Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino last Wednesday, August 16, the “Bar Boys” team called for audiences to grab a ticket while they still can because although the festival runs for a whole week, the chances of some films being pulled out last minute are still there.
“The Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino runs for a whole week but it only guaranteed a minimum of 60 cinemas for all the individual films for the first three days,” the production team shared on the movie’s official Facebook page.
“After that, it’s up to the cinemas if they want to give more or less screens for some of the films.”
The “Bar Boys” team fears that their film could be pulled out of cinemas as soon as Saturday, August 19.
This isn’t the first time independent films have struggled to gain a foothold in commercial cinemas. Last year’s Metro Manila Film Festival, which featured indie films rather than the usual line-up featuring celebrities such as Vic Sotto and Vice Ganda, made headlines after several reports of films being pulled out after only a day or two.
There were even cases of some films not making it to the provinces.
