More popular names

NOT ENOUGH – One column is not enough to jot down popular names in and out of showbiz. So, as they say – popular names “pa more.”

JOSEPH – Its Pinoy equivalent, Jose, is now rarely used… at least in showbiz.

1LIZA Soberano copy

Think Joseph Estrada, Joseph Franco, Joseph Siytangco, Joseph Bitangcol, Joseph de Cordova.

Then, there were Jose Romulo, Jose Corazon de Jesus, Jose Mari Gonzalez, Jose Mari Chan, and Jomari Yllana, much younger than the others just mentioned.

ELIZABETH – Think Oropesa, Ramsey, and Bautista. In Hollywood, there’s Elizabeth Taylor, Liz for short. And, of course Queen Elizabeth 11 of England.

Liza is also short for Elizabeth: Liza Soberano, (the new “Darna”) Liza Lorena, Liza Moreno (“Darna” of yesteryear).

EDDIE – As in Eddie Mesa, Eddie Ilarde, Eddie Gutierrez, the late Eddie Peregrina, Eddie del Mar, and Eddie San Jose.

By the way, Eddie Mesa – Elvis Presley of the ‘50s – is mounting a concert this month with his talented children and grandchildren.

GLORIA – Very distinguished in showbiz.

Gloria Romero – the most regal of all movie queens.

Gloria Diaz – Miss Universe 1969.

Gloria Sevilla – queen of Visayan movies in the ‘50s.

All three Glorias are very fine actresses.

RONALD – The real name of Fernando Poe Jr. is Ronald Allan Poe.

Ronald Corveau, Ronald Remy, Ronald “Ronnie” Ricketts.

In old Hollywood: Ronald Reagan and Ronald Collman.

‘PA MORE’ – Quickly now namesakes “pa more.”

Idol of the ‘50s Nestor de Villa and our very own Nestor Cuartero.

Another idol of the ‘50s, Mario Montenegro, (the original Brown Adonis). The Mario’s of the entertainment beat:

Hernando, Bautista, Dumaual.

Kris Aquino and Kris Bernal and sound alike Cris Villonco.

Vilma Santos – and Valera, Vitug

Maricel Soriano – Laxa and Morales.

Gretchen Barretto – Fullido and Ho.
