MANY may not know it but Kapuso broadcast journalist Steve Dailisan spends his days-off teaching future journalists at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines in Manila.
In an exclusive interview, Dailisan said that he has a soft spot for working students. “Malambot ang puso ko sa mga working students. Mahirap talagang magtrabaho habang nag-aaral,” said Dailisan.
Being a professor
Dailisan, 31, would like to believe that he is a strict professor.
“Siguro sasabihin ng students ko strict ako kasi ako ‘yung nagpapahalaga sa oras. Sabi ko sa kanila, hindi naman ako perfectionist pero kung hindi ka mag-strive for excellence, sayang ‘yung oras;
“Before, may isa o dalawa (na akong binagsak). Hindi na talaga pumapasok. Walang exams. Hindi naman siguro sila natakot sa akin pero hindi ko talaga alam ang back story. ‘Yung iba naman pagnakiusap, gagawa na lang daw sila ng special project,” said Dailisan.
He also gave tips to students who want to join the broadcast industry.
“Kung gusto nilang maging broadcast journalist, dapat matibay ‘yung foundation nila. Pasensyoso rin sila kasi mahirap talaga ‘yung trabaho;
Dailisan has been in the broadcast industry for 10 years now. After he graduated at the PUP, he joined the Kapuso network.
Most of the time, Dailisan pounds on disasters which include covering typhoons, sinking ships and volcanic eruptions.
Atom Araullo
Dailisan said that he does not consider former Kapamilya journalist Atom Araullo a threat when he joined the Kapuso network.
“Atom is my friend. Kahit nung nasa ABS CBN pa s’ya, magkaibigan na talaga kami. Madalas kaming nagkakasabay sa mga coverage;
“Bago pa s’ya pumasok sa GMA, tinanong ko pa sya ‘uy lilipat ka na raw sa GMA?’ Minessage ko na rin sya at sabi ko welcome;
“Pero dine-deny pa n’ya ‘yun that time. Binibiro ko na nga sya na lilipat na raw s’ya sa GMA 7. Nag-thank you sya nung minessage ko sya na welcome to GMA 7,” Dailisan said.
