Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Gen. Rey Leonardo Guerrero yesterday allayed fears that the extension of martial law in Mindanao will lead to human rights violations.
“We have always been professional in our conduct. We have always exerted efforts to make sure that we are accountable and responsible for our actions and clearly our implementation of martial law from the time it was declared up to the time it was extended,” Guerrero said in his first ever press briefing in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City since assuming the post last October.
“Up to now we have seen that the AFP has been faithful and committed in its performance of its mandates especially in the protection of human rights, the observance of law, and our commitment to ensure peace and security in our communities,” he added.
