The Muntinlupa City government vowed to apprehend drivers who will welcome the New Year using motorcycles and tricycles equipped with “open pipe mufflers.”
In an announcement on its Facebook page, the Muntinlupa City government said, “Nagsagawa ng Motorcade bilang pagbibigay babala sa lahat na mahigpit na ipatutupad ang OPLAN IWAS PAPUTOK sa Muntinlupa.
Huhulihin din ang mag-iingay gamit ang mga open pipe mufflers ng tricycle at motor.” City government offices held a motorcade on Dec. 30 to warn residents that a total firecracker ban is in effect in Muntinlupa based on City Ordinance 14-092, passed in December 2014, that prohibits the sale, distribution, possession and use of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices.
Under the Muntinlupa ordinance, violation of the firecracker ban will have a fine of P1,000 or imprisonment of not more than one month for the first offense; P3,000 fine or jail time of not more than six months for the second offense; and a fine of P5,000 or imprisonment of not more than six months for the third offense. Establishments that violate the local law will be penalized with revocation of permit and license to operate. (Jonathan Hicap)
