The Bureau of Customs (BoC) on Monday said that they had seized P18.5 million worth of misdeclared cigarettes at the Manila International Container port.

It was declared as industrial artificial fur texture but was found to be cigarettes instead. The shipment arrived at the Port of Manila last April 4 from China and was filed under import Entry No. C-88031 on April 5.

Lapeña said that the shipment was consigned to Madrid Industrial Marketing, which is located at 2090 Batangas Line, Paco, Manila.

The shipment was declared as 890 cartons of industrial artificial fur texture but after it was examined, customs officials found out that it contains 914 cartons of cigarette brands – Jackpot, Fortune, John, Marvels, and U2.

The BoC commissioner said that the shipment was intercepted through an X-ray inspection.
