Oral sex and pregnancy

By Rica Cruz

Dear Ms. Rica,
Pwede po ba ako mabuntis if I swallowed semen during oral sex? Mayroon po kasing nagsabi sa amin na pwede daw po itong makabuntis. Pwede daw po kasi pumasok sa dugo ng babae ang sperm kapag nilunok.

Curious Girl

Hello Curious Girl,
Hindi totoo na pwede kang mabuntis just by doing oral sex. Hindi rin totoo na pwede kang mabuntis if semen goes into your mouth or your bloodstream. Pregnancy is only possible kapag ang semen ay nakapasok sa reproductive system ng babae through the vagina. Kung walang paraan para makapasok ang semen sa reproductive system ng babae, hindi ito makakabuntis.

I am not sure if pregnancy is discussed in your Health classes in elementary. Pero para mabuntis ang isang babae (through the natural way), kailangan ay makapasok ang sperm sa vagina, umakyat ito through the cervix, the uterus and the fallopian tubes. Kapag ito ay nasa fallopian tubes na, kailangan ay makameet ito ng egg para ma-fertilize. Kapag nakafertilize na ito, the fertilized egg will travel to the uterus para ma-implant.

This process will not happen if the sperm comes in through the mouth. Kapag nilunok ang semen, it will not be able to access the reproductive system of the woman. Instead, it will go through the digestive system, katulad ng kahit anong pagkain. It will get digested in the mouth, then the stomach, until what’s left of it is excreted. Kapag ganito ang nangyari, the sperm will die because of the process of breakdown in the gastrointestinal tract.

Pero, kahit hindi ito nakakabuntis, I think you should know na pwede ka naman magkaroon ng sexually transmitted infections (STIs) like herpes, gonorrhea, chlamydia, etc. from doing unprotected oral sex if your partner is infected. Kaya, para sigurado na safe ka sa pagkabuntis at pagkakaroon ng kahit anong STI, mas nakabubuti if you practice safer sex by using condoms or if you and your partner get regularly tested para mas maenjoy niyo ang isa’t isa nang walang kaba. #takeitfromthesexymind

With love and lust,

Rica
