Pacquiao kin, allies dominate polls

By Joseph Jubelag

GENERAL SANTOS CITY – Almost all the villages here and in nearby Sarangani are now lorded over by allies of boxer-turned-senator Manny Pacquiao.

Poll results from the 26 villages here showed all reelected and newly-elected village chairmen are members of the People’s Champ Movement, a local political party founded and headed by Pacquiao.

Meanwhile, Pacquiao’s sister-in-law, Lorelie, was re-elected barangay captain of Barangay Labangal.

His godmother, Nicanora Vargas, also won village chair of Barangay Bula.

The more than 140 villages of nearby Sarangani are also now under the stewardship of Pacquiao’s political allies.

Pacquiao has established his clout as a political kingpin in Sarangani when he became congressman of the province from 2010 until he was elected senator in 2016.

His younger brother, Roel is now the congressman of the lone district of Sarangani.
