2 Turks arrested

By Jun Ramirez

Bureau of Immigration (BI) officers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) foiled another human trafficking operation with the recent interception of two Turkish nationals who tried to leave for Canada by passing themselves as Bulgarian nationals.

In a report to Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente, BI Deputy Commissioner and Port Operations Chief Marc Red Mariñas said the two aliens were intercepted on May 30 at the departure area of the NAIA 2 terminal as they were about to board a Philippine Airlines flight for Toronto, Canada.

Mariñas said the two aliens both carried tampered Bulgarian passports which they presented to immigration officers in their attempt to enter Canada illegally. They were identified as Kemal Lok, 52, and Yilmaz Aydogan, 47, who reportedly admitted that they are Turkish citizens and that the Bulgarian passports seized from them were spurious.

They also turned over their Turkish passports which they hid in their luggage.
