UST books PVL finals berth

University of Santo Tomas recovered from its inconsistent plays as it bested Adamson, 25-15, 16-25, 25-22, 21-25, 15-8, yesterday to book a men’s finals berth in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at The Arena in San Juan City.

The Tigers rode on the all-around efforts of Manuel Medina to sweep their best-of-three semis series.

They won Game 1 on Saturday, 25-18, 25-22, 16-25, 32-30.

Medina highlighted his performance with 16 kills to finish with 19 points. He also had two aces and one block.

UST seized the fifth-set momentum despite a fourth-set stumble, taking advantage of Adamson’s passing errors for a quick 8-2 lead and never looked back.

Genesis Redido and Joshua Umandal also finished 14 and 12 points for the Tigers, while Jayvee Sumagaysay added 11 points.

Meanwhile, Far Eastern University (FEU) forged a rubber match for the other finals seat after edging National University (NU), 21-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-23.

John Paul Bugaoan led with 13 points including three blocks while Redijohn Paler also added 13 points and seven digs to bounce back from a 21-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-23 Game 1 defeat and keep the Tamaraws’ bid alive.

Game 3 is next Saturday. (Kristel Satumbaga)
