Cubs beat Light Bombers

San Beda used Jose Rizal University’s lackluster plays in the second period to its advantage and eked out a 62-56 win at the start of second-round eliminations in the NCAA juniors basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.

The Red Cubs limited the Light Bombers to just four points in that quarter to grab a 50-45 lead at the half after trailing 19-16 in the first frame.

Art Oliva and Justine Sanchez had 15 points each while combining for 10 rebounds for San Beda, which notched its seventh win against three losses to remain at third place.

Joshua Lazaro contributed seven points and 11 boards for the many-time champions.

With the loss, the Light Bombers evened their record to 5-5 despite getting 15 points and eight boards from John Amores.

Meanwhile, Lyceum overpowered San Sebastian in overtime, 99-93, to tie its victim at joint 7th with identical 4-6 cards.

Mclaude Guadana and Alfred Dejelo stepped up in the extra period by conspiring for 12 points for the Junior Pirates who likewise played rock solid defensively.
