THE Commission on Elections has moved the period for the filing of the Certificates of Candidacy for the May 2019 midterm polls.
Instead of Oct. 1 to 5, the Comelec said the filing of CoCs will now be from Oct. 11 to 17.
“COMELEC en banc has authoÂrized the re-scheduling of the filÂing of certificate of candidacies for the #2019NLE, to October 11-17, 2018, excluding Saturday and SunÂday,” Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said in a statement.
He added that there will be no extension of filing hours on the last day.
On Monday, the Senate and House adopted resolutions urging the poll body to reset the period of the filing of CoC. The House said this is to enable members of ConÂgress to fully attend on the budget deliberations and other legislative duties.
In Resolution No. 10420 issued last week, the poll body said, “No person can run for the position of Senator, Member of the House of Representatives, Provincial, City, Municipal or ARMM Regional ofÂficial unless such aspirant accomÂplishes and files a sworn CoC.”
The Comelec said the CoC shall be filed by an aspirant or through a duly authorized representative with a sworn and signed authorÂity to file the CoC. (Leslie Ann G. Aquino)
