An alleged gunrunner was killed in a shootout with police along People’s Avenue in Barangay 171, Bagumbong, Caloocan City, Friday midnight.
Police identified the suspect as a certain “Payok,” about 45 to 50 years old. He was wearing a white t-shirt, green shorts, a black cap, and a violet sling bag.
Police operatives conducted the buy-bust for an unlicensed firearm at about 12:05 a.m.
Investigation showed that a poseur-buyer was transacting with the suspect and his cohort when Payok reportedly sensed that he was dealing with police.
He drew his gun and traded shots with the cops who hit him in different parts of the body. He died on site.
His cohort, who remains unidentified, evaded arrest when he sped off on a getaway motorcycle towards Barangay Bagong Silang, Caloocan City.
Recovered from the crime scene were a .38-caliber revolver, a .22-caliber revolver, two sachets of suspected shabu worth about P6,000, five caliber .36 live ammunition, a spent shell, P2,000 marked money, and P500 in cash. (Minka Tiangco)
