At least 34 passengers were injured when a speeding 10-wheeler truck rammed a passenger bus along Remedios Street corner San Marcelino Street in Manila Tuesday night.
Investigation showed that prior to the accident, the bus plying from Lawton going to Cavite was traversing Remedios Street while the delivery truck carrying softdrinks was traveling along San Marcelino Street.
A closed circuit camera television showed the bus coming from the eastbound lane arrived at the intersection and almost reached the other side when the truck from the southbound lane hit the back left side of the bus at around 9:45 p.m. on March 5.
Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau said the impact was so strong that the passenger bus turned on its side.
According to Philippine Red Cross, the 34 injured passengers were rushed to Ospital ng Maynila, Manila Doctors Hospital, Manila Medical Center, and Philippine General Hospital for immediate treatment.
The driver of the trailer truck (CDK 3992), Noli Mendoza of Barangay Dungawan Guinyagan, Quezon Province; and driver of the Kersteen bus (DXG 880), Joseph Mojica of Amadeo, surrendered to authorities.
Meanwhile, the collision caused heavy traffic in the area before the bus was removed from the street at around 1:30 a.m. early Wednesday morning. (Erma Edera)
