President Duterte has named Aurora Cruz as new chief of the Social Security System, Malacañang revealed yesterday.
Cruz, the second woman to lead the pension fund, was named as president and chief executive officer based on her appointment paper signed on March 28.
The first woman to lead the SSS was Corazon dela Paz who served under the Arroyo administration.
Ignacio was appointed a day before the election ban on appointments from March 29 to May 12. Under the election ban, it is prohibited to make new appointments or promotions or hire new employees within the period.
Ignacio obtained her Bachelor of Science, major in Commerce, Banking and Finance degree from the Centro Escolar University.
She is also a former assistant secretary at the Office of the President, designated as the focal person to handle inquiries and interventions related to the government’s campaign against illegal drugs.
Ignacio replaced SSS chief Emmanuel Dooc who resigned from his post early last month. Doc “voluntarily and irrevocably stepped down” to give Duterte the chance to appoint a new head of the SSS.
Dooc was appointed to the lead the SSS in 2016, replacing Emilio de Quiros. Prior to joining SSS, Dooc served as insurance commissioner. (Argyll Geducos)
