Young people will be among those whose feet will be washed by Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle on Maundy Thursday at the Manila Cathedral in Intramuros, Manila .
Fr. Reginald Malicdem, rector of the Manila Cathedral, has not yet provided the names of these young people as they are still finalizing the list of 12 people whose feet will be washed by the cardinal.
But he said these young people have “different backgrounds and stories.”
Malicdem said they were also chosen in line with the Church’s observance of the Year of the Youth. “Since it is the Year of the Youth, there will be highlights on young people,” he said.
On Maundy Thursday last year, the cardinal washed the feet of migrants, refugees, and displaced people.
Among those whose feet he washed was Fr. Teresito “Chito” Suganob’s, who was held hostage by the Maute Group during the Marawi City siege in 2017.
In 2017, Tagle washed the feet of drug surrenderers, policemen, government officials, volunteers, and relatives of victims of alleged extrajudicial killings.
The “Washing of the Feet” will take place at 5 p.m. during the Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper. (Leslie Aquino)
