A mother, who allegedly allowed her partner to sexually abuse her own daughter for five years, was nabbed by operatives of the Eastern Police District (EPD) Saturday, a day after the man’s arrest.
A report submitted to EPD director Police Brig. Gen. Christopher Tambungan showed that the woman, 40, and her partner, 47, were apprehended on the strength of an arrest warrant issued on Feb. 3 by Judge Carmencita Lacandazo Logan of Regional Trial Court Branch 159 in Pasig City for the crime of rape.
No bail was recommended for the suspects (name withheld to protect the victim).
Teams of the District Intelligence and Special Operations Units apprehended the mother around 6:45 a.m. Saturday in front of Puregold on Mercedes Avenue in Barangay San Miguel, Pasig City.
The man, on the other hand, was collared around 7:30 p.m. Friday inside their house in Barangay San Miguel.
The suspect, a mechanic, allegedly began sexually assaulting his stepdaughter with the consent of her mother when she was just 12 years old, the report read.
The victim thought the sexual abuse of her stepfather would only happen once. But the man allegedly continued his illicit acts until she reached the age of 17, the time she sought help from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in filing a complaint against her mother and stepfather, the report added.
The couple was placed under surveillance for two months prior to their arrest, police said.
The victim is now under the custody of DSWD while the suspects are now detained at Pasig City Police Station. (Jhon Aldrin Casinas)
